Cycle paths dangerous to cyclists?

An article in the Montreal Gazette suggests that the separated bicycle paths running through the city might endanger cyclists.   The false sense of security provided by concrete dividers could increase the risk of sailing through an intersection and encountering the very real sense of being run over by a car.

I’m fairly sure the problem is not the separated paths, but the drivers who turn left across the bicycle lanes.  But that’s just me.
