Toronto Streets: Work Hazard

Be safer.

Wayne Scott has done a lot of good.  Ten years ago, when he was a bicycle courier, Scott convinced Revenue Canada that messengers should be able to claim food as fuel on their taxes.  No small feat.  Now, Scott has taken aim at the city of Toronto.

As the Toronto Star reports, Scott is taking the City Labour Board to court, using the Occupational Health and Safety act to argue that Toronto streets are an unsafe work environment.  This argument seems to be a good one to make.  Many city officials (including police, EMT, and bylaw officers) cycle at work, and these are not employees that any government would want to ignore or endanger.  Scott wants more done to improve safety throughout the city, including finally implementing Toronto’s bicycle plan.

Good luck.
